Procuring a compliant passenger walkway Print
Passenger walkway at Dover cruise terminal
Royal Haskoning are at the forefront of providing consultancy services with regard to procuring passenger walkways. These specialist pieces of port equipment are governed by legislation aimed at providing firstly safety to the operator and then to those who use the equipment to gain safe passage from the terminal building to the moored vessel.

Therefore in order for the purchaser, normally the port owner to be compliant with legislation such as the Machinery Directive it is important that Royal Haskoning are engaged to assist during the procurement procedure.

Several members of our team have extensive experience in understanding not only the structural designs of this type of equipment but also the mechanical and electrical control systems that are used to power the various assemblies during the operation time that the vessel is alongside.

Depending on where in the world these walkways are installed it may be necessary for them to follow the moored vessel over a full tidal range which could be as much as 10 metres in some cases and also traverse along a quay side to accommodate a variety of different vessel door locations.

Our services includes providing a full independent design check of the specialist walkway manufactures designs in all three disciplines i.e. structural, mechanical and electrical as required by the latest Standards.
