First Marine International Limited (FMI) was formed in 1991 and has built up an experienced team of qualified consultants and engineers including shipping, shipbuilding, ship repair and marine equipment industry specialists.

In2008, FMI was acquired by Royal Haskoning. Together, FMI and Royal Haskoning offer an unparalleled breadth of maritime development services.

Members of FMI have, collectively, worked on projects in over fifty countries and were first involved together in the 1970s during the design and engineering of the some of the world's largest andmost successful shipyards.

Our particular strength is our expertise in all aspects of both shipbuilding and ship repair. We are well informed regarding the present European and world markets and the prospects to the end of the decade and beyond.

We also have a comprehensive knowledge of industry best practice and can benchmark individual yards against these standards.

Each project team contains a unique combination of disciplines with the capability and experience of applying its skills and know-how to different geographical, cultural and operational situations.

We understand the problems of the marine industries where both the technology and the business environment have continued to change rapidly. The problem is not only knowing what is modern technology and best practice, but also, how to introduce it in a planned and controlled way to give maximum benefit.

Our expertise includes market research and forecasting; marine industry studies; benchmarking; competitiveness; technology development; upgrading of existing shipyards; design and engineering of greenfield shipyards; and development, implementation and management of shipyard performance improvement programmes.

We operate in the following sectors: commercial and naval shipbuilding; ship repair, refit and conversion; construction of offshore structures; marine equipment manufacturing; and shipping and transportation.
