Liquid Gases Storage Print

The Business Group Structural Engineering, part of the Architecture & Building Division, specifically focuses on storage facilities of liquefied gases, such as butane, propane, ethylene and LNG. The engineers deliver services for tender designs, basic designs, detailed designs and construction site supervision of pre-stressed concrete protection structures for the cryogenic storage of liquefied gases up to a storage capacity of 160,000 m3.

The designs meet the highest international quality standards and safety regulations. When designing protection structures, e.g. concrete tanks with dome shaped roofs, safety is a primary goal. To achieve this, it is essential to predict and control the crack development in the concrete structure which is subject to high pressure and temperature loads. This enables the functionality, collapse-safety and liquid tightness under emergency circumstances to be modelled.

Feedback from the construction supervisors and contractors is included in the design and detailing of the structures. An integrated approach to design engineering and supervision by experts in this field is essential to control the risk of a calamity.
