Maritime and Port Consulting Services

Royal Haskoning is currently reported to be responsible for some 50% of all port and maritime related development in the UK and Netherlands. This high level of marine related activity supports an equally significant proportion of internationally based projects. In a recent survey of international projects Royal Haskoning were noted as being responsible for some 34% of the projects reported on. The Maritime Division of Royal Haskoning undertakes approximately 250 port development projects annually as well as other marine related projects covering the dry dock and shipyard sectors.

Port Planning Services

We have an extensive professional track record in undertaking port master plan assignments. Almost by definition these are of a multi-disciplinary nature and comprise a wide spread of disciplines: technical, financial, organisational, and institutional. In the technical spheres we developed industry leading software in the planning and design of terminals and our in house software can optimise port terminal planning and layout design. It also includes a Marine Traffic Module, for the testing of marine traffic management options and risk levels associated with proposed developments as well as the development of passage planning and VTS control options.

In addition, the firm is involved in the generation of customised port related structural simulation packages. These provide the port manager with a rapid assessment system to check the acceptability of increased loadings from alternative cargo handling equipment and vessels operations, which depart from the “design norm” for the facility.


Land Transport Infrastructure Consulting Services

Royal Haskoning is responsible for projects across the full range of land transport infrastructure in Europe and internationally including roads, bridges and viaducts, railways, rail infrastructure, tunnels and intermodal terminals.


Port Operational Handling Equipment Services

We have extensive expertise in the planning, design and implementation of the whole sector of port operational handling equipment and we can offer a full range of services to optimise the capacity and systems in the handling of all types of cargo. Our project experience includes containers,  stand alone craneage, ship craneage, bulk handling conveyors shore side equipment, grain handling equipment and break bulk solutions.


Water and Wastewater Consulting Services

With over 600 staff, the Environment Division is the largest in the group and covers the full range of environmental services associated with infrastructure development. Project experience includes remediation of contaminated land, environmental audit, environmental management systems, coastal zone management, environmental economics, disposal of dredged material, oil spill contingency planning, ecological surveys and pollution control.
