New Sites Print
Communications Mast
Within Royal Haskoning, we have experience in the development of new sites. The work includes estate issues e.g. land acquisition and obtaining statutory approvals, and construction issues such as the design of new towers and buildings, construction of access routes, cabins, towers and their associated lightning protection systems, equipment installation into the cabins and commissioning of the sites.

As a company, we act as Project Managers for a number of clients, most notably for National Air Traffic Services for the installation of new radio stations on the Isle of Lewis, Ayr, Shetland, Rugby and Kent and for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency for the replacement, refurbishment and installation of a large number of towers and cabins throughout the UK and Northern Ireland.

We have also been involved with the provision of replacement towers for the Grampian Police in the Aberdeenshire Area and the provision of a considerable number of new towers and buildings for Cable and Wireless, the Wireless Infrastructure Group and Scottish and Southern Energy.

As part of our current term commission with the Met Office we have been involved in the project management of a number of works associated with the demolition and replacement of existing weather recording structures and their associated cabins including works to the following sites: Cambourne, Lerwick Observatory, North Rona, Stornoway, Ballykelly, Fair Isle, Foula, Cobbacoombe Cross, Cheynies Radar Station, Butt of Lewis Radar Station, and Kirkwall Airport. Other recent projects have included the project management of four new large weather radar sites in Barbados, Trinidad, Belize and Guyana for the Caribbean Meteorological Organisation and the design and management of the construction of a new radar training facility for the Met Office in Exeter

We act as agents for Cable and Wireless Communications (and their facilities managers GVA Grimley and Doherty Bain) in monitoring contractors on Cable and Wireless sites and carry out replacement, strengthening and installation work to towers and cabins throughout the UK and Caribbean. Site surveys are carried out with a view to preparing land acquisition and site sharing drawings. These contracts required a full service from Haskoning UK including feasibility studies, estimates of cost, statutory approvals, land acquisition, producing designs, specifications and contract documentation, compiling tender lists, evaluating tenders, site supervision and contract administration.

We have also acted as Management Contractors in a Design and Build Capacity (including commissioning) on a number of sites throughout the UK for a number of different clients. These tend to be associated with the backbone of any new or existing system. To date we have constructed 60 new cellular sites, most of which have included towers (and their associated foundations) ranging from 15 to 50m in height along with equipment cabins and their associated power and telecoms equipment.

We have designed, to BS 8100, a completely new range of 15m (extendable to 30m) communication towers for Clarke Telecom to carry the five ā€œ3Gā€ licence holders. This structure is being used on approximately 100 sites throughout the United Kingdom.
