Assessment of High Structures Print
Cable and Wireless Mast
With the present high capital expenditure required to provide new radio sites it has become expedient to place new antennae on old structures.  These towers generally lack drawings or design calculations or the calculations refer to outdated codes of practice.  The client is therefore unable to progress his scheme without a re-appraisal of the towers capabilities.

As part of this process we have also been asked by a number of our clients to assess the effect of placing antenna on existing structures such as water towers, chimneys, churches and high rise buildings. Again the measurement and structural appraisal of this type of structure is a normal activity carried out by our organisation.

We are able to assess individual structures to current codes of practice e.g. BS8100 Parts 1 to 4 for mast and tower structures, either by inputting data from client provided drawings or by physically measuring the structure insitu. Current clients for this particular work include the Ministry of Defence, The MOD Regional Prime Contractors,  Met Office, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Trinity House, National Air Traffic Services, Cable & Wireless Communications, GVA Grimley, James Barr, Orange, Vodafone, thus, Scottish & Southern Energy, the Police Authorities (including the Metropolitan Police), the Wireless Infrastructure Group and Local Authorities.

All analyses are undertaken using the industry standard Microstran’s “MSTower and Mast”. The use of this software makes for easy interaction between other mast and tower consultancies and Royal Haskoning. Particular expertise is held in pylon structures, small to medium sized guyed structures and masts designed to carry cellular, radar and emergency equipment.

We have also been asked to provide expert technical advice by a number of clients in cases where failure of structures has occurred.
