Royal Haskoning have considerable experience in the inspection, assessment and construction of concrete, steel, timber and masonry structures associated with the cellular, communications and defence industries. Mast, tower and flagpole inspection, assessment, design and construction has been undertaken for a number of clients throughout the UK and Overseas.

This experience includes maintenance and health and safety inspections, including the preparation of forward maintenance plans, the management of maintenance contracts, the assessment of an individual structure’s load capacity & the design of strengthening solutions, design of new structures and the completion of new radio sites both in the traditional consultancy role and as a management contractor.

Mast, tower and flagpole projects, including inspection contracts and appraisal contracts are normally managed and completed by the Haskoning UK team based in Edinburgh.  This team will be backed up by specialist advice and climbers from other offices of Royal Haskoning as necessary. This also includes personnel in offices located in a large number of other countries around the world.

All staff involved in this type of work are experienced climbers who are medically examined at regular intervals and are trained to operate safely at heights. Our climbers are expected to adhere to the requirements of our own Code of Practice for safe climbing. With respect to equipment, all our climbers are provided with the necessary safety equipment in order to carry out their function. As a minimum, this will include waterproof and windproof clothing, a safety harness, a pole rope, a climber’s helmet, safety boots, a railok carriage, a latchway carriage, and slings and karabiners as necessary.

Within the group, we are able to call on a number of departments to carry out such specialist services as abseiling, ultrasonic testing, RF hazard surveys, guy tension checking and re-tensioning etc.  For tower related work we use a mixture of highly experienced Chartered Engineers, Graduates or Technicians.
