Kamsar Port Masterplan Study

Project Name:

Kamsar Port Masterplan Study

Country:

Guinea

Client:

CBG

Year:

2009

The Port of Kamsar is expected to grow significantly in the coming years. A Master Plan is made by Haskoning for port expansion.

Presently the Port of Kamsar serves only the Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée (CBG) a bauxite exporting company in the North-West region of Guinea. Many other companies prepare plans to start mining and the export of bauxite and alumina as well, resulting in a lot of industrial activity. The region is therefore expected to develop strongly, as well as the population.

In the project distinction is made between industrial port infrastructure and a port for commercial purposes. The Master Plan focused on the development of the commercial port, whereas the industries take care of the development of the bauxite and alumina jetties.

The Master Plan included, traffic analyses, capacity determination of the quays, storage yards and port facilities. Layout studies for three alternatives have been worked out, and cost estimates and a financial feasibility study was performed.

Included in the study were furthermore a navigation study, and an environmental analysis.
