The Government of Cross River State is implementing various socio-economic policy initiatives. One of which is the promotion of the establishment of a dedicated energy services facility in Calabar to be known as Calabar Energy City. Royal Haskoning was assigned to undertake project management services for this project. An initial total of 10 work packages (including some optional WPs) over a 6 months period will see RH UK carry out a variety of tasks in different fields of work within different divisions (such as master planning, award of contracts for EIAs, site clearance and dredging/reclamation, M&E planning etc.).

Eye of the Maldives

Gulhi Falhu reef and lagoon are located about 3 km west of Malé. The new reclaimed land with the new planned facilities should be safe against the sea for at least the next 100 years. A visual was produced to show how the development may eventual look. The landuse plan includes – floating houses, hotel, water amusement park, social housing, administrative buildings, convention center, golf course, school, hospital, luxury homes, utilities etc.

A short animation was produced to demonstrate the area of coast that was under water during two tidal ranges. This was used to aid the Client that there was no residential need for it due to the amount was under water throughout the various tidal cycles.

Duqm

A green field port development by Ministry of Transport and Communication (MoTC) in Oman and encompassing: dredging the port to -18m CD and the approach channel to -19m CD, total volume of reclamation of approx 17.5 million m3, 4,000m long main breakwater, 4,500m long lee breakwater, 2,250m long commercial quay and 980m long government quay. Construction contract was awarded in May 2007 with a completion date of May 2013 and total value of approx RO 730 million. Royal Haskoning completed the marine design and is currently supervising construction work on site.

Oil Support Base in West Africa

An international oil services terminal located in West Africa. Since it’s inception, the port has seen major development in terms of the facilities on the site. The current port consists of a 270m quay, a number of permanent onshore structures and a 12,500m2 accommodation area. The planned phase 3 development of the site incorporates further permanent onshore structures, an extension of the quay for the use of the oil services, a container transhipment terminal and a ship & rig repair facility.

Royal Haskoning submitted a concept idea for the redevelopment of Hamburg CTS. As part of the presentation to the client 3d visuals  were created of the concept idea being put forward. Opening and closing title sequences to ensure a constant presentation theme throughout the whole presentation was also created.

The new relocated port will provide a rail ferry terminal, together with general cargo, container terminal and Ro- Ro facilities. The client required a twelve minute and five minute movie to use as promotional material and also as an aid to show the country’s’ head and other dignitaries the proposed phasing of the development as well as its scope and capacity.

Maldives

A feasibility study has been carried out into the development of a new ship repair facility in the Maldives.  The project included a market study of the local and visiting shipping fleets to determine a number and size of dry repair berths.  Options for ship recovery systems and different shipyard arrangements were then considered and the preferred layout was created into a 3 dimensional drawing to help the marketing of the project to potential international investors.

Duqm

In 2002 Royal Haskoning, in joint venture with local partners, was commission by the Omani Government’s Ministry of Communications & Transport to undertake a Feasibility Study into developing a shipyard and fishing port at Duqm. The project has since developed and expanded. Construction work started in 2007, and the current development comprises 9 km of breakwater, 2.25km of commercial quay, 1km of Government berths, a 400,000dwt shipyard, and a 9.5km approach channel, with the potential to develop a further 34 berths within the area enclosed by the basin. Royal Haskoning has been responsible for the detailed design of all the marine structures, has undertaken coastal and navigation modelling studies, and contract and site supervision. An overview of the proposed site was put together based on an existing aerial image and aided the Client to view the overall plan.

Salalah

Royal Haskoning has been commissioned to undertake the design and site supervision of a major expansion to the container terminal at Salalah.  The project comprises 1,350m of new berth, a new dredged access channel, reclamation and the associated landside works.  Royal Haskoning has also been updating the Master Plan for the port, covering both the container terminal and the General cargo terminal.  Due to proposed developments in the adjacent free zone and elsewhere, the plan has had to cater for the possibility of substantial bulk cargo.  The Master Plan envisages a substantial new breakwater to protect the port from long waves. A visualisation showing the construction phases of the proposed site was produced and animated and merged together.

Cantilever Linkspan

A visualisation was completed of a patented design of a Cantilever Linkspan to aid the promotions and understand of the design.  The new structure is designed to put all of the maintenance aspects on the landward side of the structure to enable a safer environment for the workers.

Doha

Royal Haskoning provided assistance to APMT concerning a proposed new port at Lekki in Nigeria.  The port is envisaged to comprise three terminals; a container terminal, a bulk terminal (both dry and liquid) and an oil rig support base.  Royal Haskoning prepared a layout plan and a 3d image of the port for marketing purposes, and prepared a first estimate of the order of magnitude costs.

Lhanbryde FAS

Lhanbryde Flood Alleviation Scheme

The Lhandbryde Flood Alleviation Scheme (FAS) involved building several structures etc that would ease the flooding in the village. During the consultation phase, there was a need to inform the public of the plans and ideas proposed. The best way to achieve this was in the form of photographs and editing them to show them the before and after so they were able to see what the little impact would be on their area. Existing photos were taken and then updated in Photoshop.
