Project Experience - Freight
The Maritime Division of Royal Haskoning have extensive experience in the field of Freight Logistics. To view examples of our project work, please see the entries below.

New Doha Port

Project Name:

New Doha Port

Country:

Qatar

Client:

Worley Parsons

Year:

2008 - ongoing

Doha Port is planning to develop a new site into a modern international container terminal with a capacity of over 6,000,000 TEU per annum. Royal Haskoning have simulated the proposed terminal design to complete a design check as part of a larger Master Plan for the site. Capacity limits for each stage of the development were identified as well as items for possible optimisation.

Development of St Petersburg Container Terminal

Project Name:

Development of St Petersburg Container Terminal

Country:

Russia

Client:

Year:

2008

Royal Haskoning is involved in the detailed planning of the conversion of an existing General Cargo/ RORO terminal to a modern container terminal. Posport CTS was used to simulate and analyse the container terminal operations and identify possible optimisations to the terminal layout.

Seaforth Container Terminal Simulation

Project Name:

Seaforth Container Terminal Simulation

Country:

United Kingdom

Client:

Mersey Docks & Harbour Company

Year:

2007

Peel Ports are merging their operations in Seaforth Container Terminal with the operations in the neighbouring Coastal Terminal. Peel Ports also investigated further expansion of their container operations in Liverpool. Posport CTS was used to analyse the existing operations and terminal layout to identify the date when maximum capacity would be achieved and to recommend ways to increase the terminal capacity. The phased development of the new terminal was also modelled so that a plan for the staged transfer of operations to the new terminal could be worked out so that the projected demand could be met.

Hull Quay 2005

Project Name:

Hull Quay 2005

Country:

United Kingdom

Client:

Hochtief (UK) Construction Limited

Year:

2007

Simulation of two options for a new container terminal in the north of the UK were undertaken in Posport CTS. The two design variations were compared to identify the best performing and most flexible option. Benchmarking of the container terminal designs against client set key performance indicators were carried out and recommendations made to the client.

Ringaskiddy Container Terminal

Project Name:

Ringaskiddy Container Terminal

Country:

United Kingdom

Client:

Port of Cork Company

Year:

2006 - 2007

Port of Cork investigated the development of a new container terminal in Cork. Royal Haskoning assisted with the development of layouts of the new terminal based on different operational alternatives. The alternatives were compared using Posport CTS. Simulation of several layouts and equipment types were carried out to identify the most efficient option for the land and quay side operations. A comparison of automated systems with more traditional methods was also carried out to recommend the most flexible and cost effective option.

Busan New Port Phase 2-4 Simulation Study

Project Name:

Busan New Port Phase 2-4 Simulation Study

Country:

Korea

Client:

Korea Ratings Company

Year:

2006 - 2007

A simulation study was made as part of the planning of a new automised container terminal in Busan New Port. Posport CTS was used to simulate multiple terminal layouts along with varying equipment types and numbers to identify the most efficient use of space and best return on investment.

DPW Yarimca Container Terminal Simulation

Project Name:

DPW Yarimca Container Terminal Simulation

Country:

Turkey

Client:

DP World

Year:

2006

Royal Haskoning liaised with DPW on developing the operational lay-out for a 1.5m TEU terminal. This included the selection of equipment, terminal lay-outs, buildings and facility requirements. Posport CTS was used to test the preliminary designs and identify the capacity, required equipment numbers and to optimise traffic flows around the terminal area. This resulted in the submission of a preliminary study report and basis of design report on which preliminary and detailed designs would be based.

Abidjan LoLo Simulation

Project Name:

Abidjan Planning Study for RoRo terminal

Country:

CĂ´te d'Ivoire

Client:

Getma

Year:

2005

In order to advise the Client concerning a concession bid for a combined RoRo and LoLo terminal, Royal Haskoning  prepared a planning study, which consists of an operational and civil planning and a financial model. The inhouse Posport CTS simulation model was used to evaluate the different operational solutions and advised on the operational and civil implications.

Northern Gateway Deep Sea Container Terminal

Project Name:

Northern Gateway Deep Sea Container Terminal

Country:

United Kingdom

Client:

PD Teesport

Year:

2005

Royal Haskoning produced a feasibility study for a large container terminal in North England, Posport CTS was used to simulate several operational lay-outs and advised on operations and equipment requirements.

Shahid Beheshti Port Development

Project Name:

Shahid Beheshti Port Development

Country:

Iran

Client:

Tidewater

Year:

2005

Testing and validation of a new container terminal design for a terminal in Iran. The purpose of this study was to test two designs for operation to check that these designs could operate at the required throughput. The designs were then analysed to identify the optimal equipment numbers and to minimise any traffic bottlenecks.

Tivoli Container Terminal Simulation

Project Name:

Tivoli Container Terminal Simulation

Country:

Ireland

Client:

Port of Cork Company

Year:

2004

Posport CTS was used to simulate an existing container handling operation to assess and validate proposed phased implementation of new stack areas and to identify throughput capacity limits for each phase.
