Royal Haskoning were appointed by the Washington Marine Group to provide input into the layout of new shiprepair workshops as an initial part of their planned expansion and redevelopment of their Victoria Shipyard site.

Royal Haskoning staff provided a critical review of the workshop layout initially developed by the yard staff. Following the review of the proposed workshop, our staff were invited to the yard to develop a workshop layout that would better meet the requirements of the yard.

By applying our extensive shipyard expertise our staff were able to design a layout of workshops that best satisfied the needs of the various trades. For each workshop we recommended a suitable floor area, craneage requirements, floor loadings and suggested list of equipment to be installed to meet the demands of the current and projected business. The layout also had to address the difficulties of the site with respect to the available area, the topography and other physical site constraints. Although outside our initial remit, we were also able to recommend certain changes to management practices regarding equipment repairs and storage of excess materials. The procurement of the proposed new workshops will be managed by the yard, but we provided advice on the options available for procuring the new workshops.
