Small Harbours, Marinas and Waterside Development

Conwy MarinaMaking the right decisions at inception.

Wherever you are in the world, the demand for leisure, residential and commercial development along the water’s edge means that these locations attract a financial premium. At the same time, the natural environment for which the waterside is particularly prized is very sensitive to change. Development therefore demands that a balance be reached between the often conflicting environmental and financial considerations. This balance can be achieved through the diligent exercise of a wide range of skills, especially at the inception stage. Royal Haskoning offers its depth of expertise and experience to all aspects of the inception process, including:

- Site selection and evaluation
- Environmental appraisal and consultation processes
- Feasibility studies
- Flood risk assessment
- Master planning and outline design
- Cost estimates, funding and grants
- Licence applications and statutory approvals

Design that blends aesthetics and practicality.

The design of each facility must be integrated to provide a pleasing unity to the development. Facilities must also be robust enough to endure the often challenging environmental conditions at the water’s edge. A typical scheme might comprise some or all of these facilities:

- Residential, retail and yachting facilities
- Breakwaters, revetments and quays
- Pontoons and moorings
- Buildings, roads, drainage and ancillary services

Each marina, harbour and waterside scheme will require a wide range of specialist investigation and design skills. In completing many successful projects, Royal Haskoning has developed the complete range of skills necessary to undertake all aspects of waterside design, including:

- Environmental impact assessments
- Geotechnical and contaminated land investigations
- Bathymetric and topographical surveys
- Wave, siltation and hydraulic studies
- Architectural and building design
- Infrastructure and utilities design
- Spatial development and planning
