Maritime Spatial Planning
Marinas and Harbours

Brighton MarinaRoyal Haskoning has had extensive experience in all stages of the marina development from concept planning to construction. Our innovations and experience have been used to develop what is now considered to be best practice in the industry.

Indeed, the document “Yacht Harbour Association Code of Practice for the Design, Construction and Operation of Coastal and Inland Marinas and Yacht Harbours” is based on the work Royal Haskoning completed for the design of an original marina development in Wales.

Royal Haskoning has been involved with marinas and mooring facilities for yachts and pleasure craft since the mid-1960’s. The ability to undertake projects of this nature derives from over 80 years’ experience in port, harbour and coastal engineering.

Over the last 30 years the increasing numbers of boats used for leisure and recreational purposes has created an ever increasing demand for safe berthing in undeveloped areas and in locations previously dedicated to other uses.

Royal Haskoning has responded to this demand by enlarging and extending its ability to tackle environmental and economic feasibility, civil, structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical engineering problems of all kinds associated with yacht marina projects. The firm is now at the forefront of all types of marina developments around the world.

Royal Haskoning has provided engineering guidance in marina development to private companies, local authorities and central governments, and can be relied upon to respond realistically to each project whatever the size of the scheme and the budget.

Coasts and rivers are invaluable environmental resources, however, the processes at work – currents, tides, waves, erosion, flooding – are complex and can be extremely hostile. Good coastal and rivers engineering requires an understanding of these natural processes as well as the successful application of project management and technical skills.

Royal Haskoning’s experienced engineers backed by an extensive suite of numerical models and design tools, adopt an open minded approach to ensure the most appropriate solutions, based on thorough investigation and analysis of the wide ranging demands at the water’s edge.

Royal Haskoning’s expertise in the planning and design of yacht and pleasure craft marinas includes:

- Selection of marina sites
- Feasibility studies Preliminary layouts for evaluation
