COMPREHENSIVE AND SUSTAINABLE PORT MASTERPLAN FOR THE PORT AREA AND ITS SURROUNDINGS

A comprehensive and sustainable port masterplan for the port area and its surroundings could include the following:


VISION AND STRATEGY


• Strengthen the identity and image of port development by implementing initiatives e.g. Ports and Cities and combining history and theory of cities and the genius loci (spirit of place)


• Creating sustainable development by recognizing and enhancing the relationship between townscape – waterscape – landscape

SPATIAL TOPICS related to the port and surroundings


• Connectivity of the port area with the wider area (urban or rural)
• Land Use outside of the Port Activities
• Land Use for Supporting Industry
• Creating Green Buffer and dealing with changes in landscape
• Designing Entrance & Access at the Waterside
• Creating exciting views & landmarks
• Defining shape, density and use of buildings
• Allocation of residential areas
• Integrating initiatives such as C40 Climate Leadership Group
• Producing spatial SWOT analysis to identify weak as well as strong areas within and outside of the port activity areas
